José Olivarez & Krissa Skogen: This Is Science

We're well underway with Experimental Words in Chicago, and we're super excited to see what our poet-scientist pairings produce at the show on Friday night. In the meantime, here's another poem from one of the pairs: the poet José Olivarez and the scientist Krissa Skogen with 'This Is Science'.

This is science
The sunsets unfurl the darkness like a carpet

This is science
The grasses blow in the wind as we sit down to wait

This is science
My heart has it’s tongue out slurping up the nectar

This is science
Machines run capturing the ephemeral boquets of scent, gin, fruit loops, jasmine

This is science
The flowers smell like gin and the gin tastes like flowers

This is science
The blue sky sets and stars fill the sky as hawkmoths flutter about drinking sweet nectar as our pencils record their visits
